Apparently you can't edit a shape once you've drawn it and you can't change the color fill inside a shape inside GN5. I am a person who likes making flowcharts and tables, so I simply couldn't stand wasting minutes erasing and redrawing a rectangle every damn time. I mean, how do you even draw a perfect square or a rectangle on the first attempt? This was the DEAL BREAKER for me. Notability however will ignore the in-app category structure and backup every group to the same folder, which can get messy. GoodNotes allows you to create nested folders and the folder structure is reflected in the destination of the auto-backup. There are no in-app purchases.Īuto deselect option on eraser is awesome. You get the OCR feature along with the app. Unlimited customizations of pen thicknesses and colours. ![]() There are 3 pens in GN5 - Ball pen, Fountain pen and Brush pen which is one more than you get in Notability. The ink feel is good ( although I didn't notice much difference between Notability and GN5 in this aspect). ![]() You can create as many folders as you want. Very limited customizations, you cannot add your own custom templates on to Notability. The lack of a favourites bar also makes things slower when in lectures.Īnd I also don't like the fact that we have to buy the OCR feature separately. But I don't really use it because I prefer handwriting my notes, so this is not a big deal for me anyway. This is super useful for technical sketches, where you want to keep the right proportions or aim for symmetry.Īlthough, I don't like the typing option in Notability. Notability allows the line-tool with shape recognition to snap to an existing grid. I very much like the organization system of notability and prefer it to that of goodnotes. I also like the highlighting on Notability as compared to Goodnotes 5. The voice recording feature will be really useful when taking notes in lectures where you're only half attentive ( But remember to take the consent of the professor) Continuous scrolling feature is awesome in that you never have to write at the bottom of your screen. The writing feel is good, the pressure sensitive pen is really sensitive, and I personally like how we draw shapes on Notability. The app is super smooth and I've never had any lag issues on it. Notability does the small basic things really well. So, I ended up buying both of them from the App Store. I couldn't decide between Notability and Goodnotes 5 after reading many reviews and watching many videos on YouTube. I recently bought an Ipad Pro for college and I wanted to purchase a note taking app. Thank you for reporting spam and other rule-breaking content.
